Hi! Riley & Claire here- the founders of The Detroit Project! We are so excited to share our vision with the rest of the world and see this project come to life. We are hoping that you will fall in love with this community as much as we have & jump on board with being a part of the newest way of sharing your art!
Q: What Is The Detroit Project?
A: The Detroit Project is a concept that was created from the idea that Detroit and its surrounding cities are bursting with creative people. Anyone who lives here knows that Detroit is on the rise and it happens to be one of the biggest small towns around. We are all connected somehow, but a thought crossed our minds: how cool would it be to create a way to bring all of these artists together? Not only as a support system, but as a place to share ideas, to get your work out there, have your shows listed, and to collaborate. Throughout history you can see that during certain time periods, cities would rise up with a ton of artists at one time. It's been awhile since Detroit's artists have made a major thumbprint in the media as a whole, so what if that all changed now? Detroit is taking huge strides as a city, how much bigger would those strides be if a major community joined together, unified as one?
Q: What is the Inspiration behind The Detroit Project?
A: Have you ever wondered how you could be more connected with the local arts scene? Would you like to put on a show, but not fill a three hour slot by yourself? What about if you're a writer or a chef? You want to collaborate on a blog or just cook with someone else? This is your ticket. What about exposure? Have you wondered how you could get yourself out there more? Well, we want to provide a way. We want to bring a community of artists together in such a way that not only would you be able to see what fellow artists are working on, but for you to have the chance to be featured yourself. On The Detroit Project we will not only give you the chance to get yourself out there, but to be able to connect with other artists virtually and at events in order to collaborate. We want Detroit and the Metro-Detroit area to be known as the city where artists collaborate and work together to help each other out.
Q: Why are we putting effort into The Detroit Project?
A: This project is important to us because not only are bringing together an amazing community, but we get to use this platform ourselves. Projects like this bring attention to the media, which bring endorsements, reps, scouts, and opportunities. If you are featured on the website, your profile will then be up on the website in our archive. This archive will then turn into a bank where scouts can view your work. This is not a guaranteed deal, but it is what you make of it. As a community, we are counting on all of you to assist in marketing yourselves, advertising the website & events we put on, & promoting fellow, featured artists. If we all work together to bring it to the attention of the world through our own connections, we can give each other the opportunities to be viewed on a larger scale. We all have our own network of followers, through sharing yours, you are then given the opportunity to gain followers through other artists who are sharing theirs. It's all about working together, changing the way the industry is structured, and fighting for a more creative and less processed, plastic industry. We adore this community and know how hard ya'll work for what you love. We are so excited to see how you take this project and make it your own, because it's not just our project- it's The Detroit Project.
